If you know me,and my music interests,it takes a lot for me to say an album is perfect. The only other full albums I can say are perfect is 1991's 'Ten' by Pearl Jam,and 1995's 'Dummy' by Portishead. Solid albums.
In 2005,the former Smashing Pumpkins drummer,Jimmy Chamberlin (not Chamberlain, contrary to belief) formed a band called the Jimmy Chamberlin Complex, and they made the album 'Life Begins Again'. It was released on January 25,2005.
Let's review the album by track:
1:Streetcrawler-Amazing instrumental song,Jimmy's drumming amazing,as always. The guitar is beautiful,ad puts you into another world. The ending has a very good sound to it. 10/10
2:Life Begins Again-This song proves Jimmy Chamberlin is a great songwriter as well as drummer (as well as Loki Cat). I like when the guitar sound switches and during the middle of the song, and it turns dramatic before returning to normal. Dark and amusing. Interesting, fast, and exciting song. 10/10
3:P.S.A.-This song has a calming, sleepy, mysterious effect in the beginning. The beginning of the song reminded me of the word pensive. This song sounds very mysterious and dark in a way. This song proves that Jimmy's drum rolls are mind numbing. Toward the 4:01 point, the bass guitar comes in,and rocks your skull! After that, you think the song is over, but it blows your mind with an amazing reprise. 10/10
4:Loki Cat-With vocals by non other than Smashing Pumpkins' lead singer Billy Corgan, this song has a dreamy, relaxing effect on your mind. I enjoy Billy's vocals on this song, very fitting to me. This song also features a drumming guest apperance by Jimmy's brother,Paul. This song once again proves Jimmy can write brilliant lyrics. 10/10
5:Cranes Of Prey-The absract track of them all. It's jazzy in the middle, and toward the end. This song is mainly rock/metal. It's a song you can actually headbang to! \m/ 10/10
6:Love Is Real-A smooth jazz-rock song, and the lyrics are very pretty. And,love IS real. This song paints an image of being out in the stars with your lover, and togetherness/unity. Drumming is stunning,as always. 10/10
7:Owed To Darryl:Brilliant jazz rock song, but it actually sounds very melancholy. This song reminds me of faded memories, depression, and longing for the good in life that has passed you by. In a way, this song sounds like what life is all about-ups and downs. The drum rolls sound ingenious. As always-10/10.
8:Newerwaves-Billy Mohler's vocals are pretty nice, well fitting for this song. This being the Jimmy Chamberlin Complex,a much different band than anything you've ever listened to,a beautiful, relaxing drum roll starts the song (Listen to SP's Geek U.S.A. and United States). The song is an out there, but dreamy song in my opinion. This song is my favorite one on the CD. 10/10
9:Time Shift-A short, but calming, smoother song. This song reminds me of daylight and sun turning to rain,on an adventurous road trip. It is not as smooth as the next track,Lullabye. I enjoy it a lot,and I wish it was longer. 10/10.
10:Lullabye-I don't know about you,but to me,this song has a very 'Rhinoceros' feel to it (Rhinoceros is by The Smashing Pumpkins, from their first album,Gish). Even the drumming has the feel of the song Rhinoceros to it. The song iself is very melodic, and the lyrics are loving and remind me of young children, like a mother singing this to her childen (some websites list the song as Lullabye To Children,as a matter of fact). 10/10
11: Loki Cat (Reprise)-A refreshing return to Loki Cat,this is a short version (a minute thirteen seconds)of what the song would sound like without Corgan's voice on it. 10/10
All in all,I have listened to this album (all songs) more than once. That says something if you're like me! Link to a copy of the CD on Amazon:. Buy the album, and you are sure to love it.
Epiphany! =D
